Comparison of the Particulate Matter Removal Capacity of 11 Herbaceous Landscape Plants

Background and objective Particulate matter (PM) has a fatal effect on health. There have been many studies the use of plants such as trees shrubs eco-friendly sustainable biofilter for removal PM. In forming more green space, ground cover play an important role in multi-layered planting. This study was conducted to investigate ability reduce PM, targeting Korean native with high availability urban spaces. Methods For 4 species Asteraceae, Liliaceae, 3 Rosaceae, one at time were placed acrylic chamber (800 × 800 1000 mm, L W H) modeling indoor space. After injection amount PM remaining over investigated. Results all three types (PM10, PM2.5, PM1), significant difference occurred between plant after 1 hour Liliaceae chamber, hours Asteraceae 5 Rosaceae chamber. With leaf area showed negative (−) correlation. there weak correlation Conclusion When using remove it is considered effective select large total area, especially Liliaceae.
